Halifax (Ireland)

Bank of Scotland (Ireland) Limited was a bank based in Ireland and a wholly owned subsidiary of the Bank of Scotland, itself a subsidiary of Lloyds Banking Group. It offered commercial and corporate banking services under the Bank of Scotland brand and retail banking services under the Halifax brand. Since 10 February 2010 the bank has no longer accepted new business, and ceased to operate as a licensed bank on 31 December 2010. The assets of the bank were merged into Bank of Scotland plc.

History

The company was founded in 1965 as Equity Bank Limited. In 1999 it was purchased by the Bank of Scotland. Later, the parent company established its own brand in the Irish market through the direct sales of mortgages from Edinburgh. Following this, it was decided to rebrand the existing Irish operation as Bank of Scotland (Ireland) in 2000.

In 2001, the bank purchased ICC Bank plc from the Irish State. This company, originally established as the Industrial Credit Company, and later known as Industrial Credit Corporation plc, was set up in 1933 by Seán Lemass in the Irish Free State to encourage investment in industry. The company was modelled on the Agricultural Credit Corporation (now called ACCBank).

Halifax, Nova Scotia railway station

Halifax railway station is an inter-city railway terminal in Halifax, Nova Scotia. It is operated by Via Rail.

Current use

The station is the eastern terminus of the Ocean, Via Rail's eastern transcontinental train which operates between Montreal and Halifax; thus it is also the eastern terminus of Via Rail.

The Ocean is North America's longest running "named passenger train" as it was introduced by the Intercolonial Railway in 1904 to provide first-class rail passage between Halifax and Montreal.

In the early 2000s, the Acadian Lines inter-city bus company moved its Halifax terminal from Almon Street in the North End to the Halifax Railway Station.

The Halifax Railway Station adjoins the Westin Nova Scotian Hotel, a former railway hotel that was built and owned by Canadian National Railways, which also built the station. CN divested the hotel during the 1980s and it is currently operated under the Westin Hotels banner.

History

The 80-year-old Halifax Railway Station continues the 150-year history of passenger rail service to the city and is the eastern terminus of North America's passenger rail network.

Halifax (MBTA station)

Halifax is a passenger rail station on MBTA Commuter Rail's Plymouth/Kingston Line. It is the station where the line splits for either Plymouth or Kingston, and is the penultimate station of the entire line.

Halifax Station is located at 6 Garden Road, which is off of Massachusetts Route 36.
